Our Turkish Vans are truly part of the family. They get lots of playtime, cuddling, and entertainment (Melek was especially interested in our litter of eleven lab puppies last Christmas.) Turkish Vans from Shelale are very accustomed to an active household. We encourage our cats to chase us around the house, learn how to open cupboards and self-feed, hop on our shoulders for spontaneous head rubs, and walk on a leash. Yet, it is the quiet moments which are most precious as any cat lover will agree: Çilek lulling me to sleep with his purring on a spring afternoon. If it hadn't been for my watchful feline companions, I would have been too lonely to work in the wee hours of the night to finish my MFA. How do cats make the bleak night seem so much warmer?
Recent News: The spacious cat house was such a success, Çilek would wait at the backdoor every morning after his breakfast, crying until one of us carried him out there. You can see him in the main photo. He really thinks he's king. To give the cats more empowerment (as if their egos needed it) we built a free-will cat tunnel. This was a true feet of creative building. Now they decide when they go in or out. Attached to the window of my daughter's room, it is the cats' obstacle course connection to the outdoors. Totally secure and high up, the way they like it.
